Celebrate Musical Theatre
An Evening of Musical Theatre!
“Think of musical comedy, the most glorious word in the English Language. Think of Broadway, damnit.” -character of Julian Marsh in 42nd Street
You are in your seat, the lights go down, the curtain opens, the music begins, and you are about to experience a live performance filled with singing, dancing, and acting. The story line might be comedic like the Drowsy Chaperone or as heavy as Les Miserables, but the music and acting will draw you into the story line.
And while you are in the audience anticipating what is about to happen, there are actors and stage crew trying to control their nerves from their excitement (and maybe a little fear) as they are about to try to entertain you after weeks or months of preparation, and possibly years of voice or dancing lessons before that. There are no seconds takes; what the performers do on stage tonight is what you will experience. The musicians in the pit are trying to not be seen, but they will get your attention when that overture begins and will play a major part in tonight’s performance.
The musical theatre experience takes place thousands of times per year on stages large and small across the country and around the world. From Gilbert and Sullivan revived appropriately for the umpteenth time since it was first performed in the late 1800’s to the latest Broadway show that might close in one night, to the latest community theatre production of the Music Man or a high school production of the Grease, musical theatre is a special form of entertainment that continues to delight audiences as only musical theatre can.
This web site celebrates musical theatre and is dedicated to the many artists present and past who have made it such a wonderful art form
